Health & Wellness
Be Safe. Be Well. Be Scottie Strong.
At Agnes Scott we take a holistic approach to a student’s physical, mental and emotional health. The Wellness Center, located on the first floor of Hopkins Hall, seeks to care for both the body and mind of students while they are at Agnes Scott and to lay the groundwork for a healthy lifestyle for years to come. We provide a variety of confidential medical, health and counseling services to all students.
Student Health Services
Services at the Student Health Center are provided by full-time nurse practitioners – registered nurses with advanced education and clinical training. As health care providers, our nurses:
- Obtain medical histories and perform physical examinations
- Diagnose and treat common health problems such as infections and minor injuries
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies such as lab work and X-rays
- Prescribe and recommend medications in collaboration with a physician
- Provide health counseling and education
Student health visits are free of charge to the student. Additional services provided on campus such as laboratory tests and immunizations will be billed either to the student's account or Aetna Student Health Insurance. The nurse practitioners may refer students to consulting medical staff at any time; the physician will discuss fees with the student at the time of service.
All medical records and clinical consultations are confidential. Records cannot be released without the written consent of the student.
Other services provided:
- Nutrition Counseling
- Gynecological Services
- Chiropractic Services
- Massage Therapy
Since regular exercise is an important part of overall health, students are encouraged to take part in the many opportunities we have for physical fitness and recreation on campus.
Agnes Scott College is in close proximity to a wide variety of top specialists and hospitals, including Emory University Health System, to meet any healthcare needs that the Wellness Center cannot.
Counseling and Psychological Services:
The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team at the Wellness Center consists of licensed mental health professionals and clinicians to help with students’ mental health needs. Students use counseling services for a wide variety of concerns including managing relationships, coping with stress and/or anxiety, life transitions, depressive symptoms, handling a crisis, identity development, sexual assault and relationship violence, self-esteem concerns, dealing with alcohol and/or drug concerns, and many more.
All currently enrolled undergraduate, graduate, and post-bacc students are eligible for CAPS services.
There is no charge to students for on-campus counseling or psychiatric services. However, due to the CAPS model of care and the large volume of requests for services, not all students can be seen regularly by an on-campus therapist, and therefore referrals are often made to off-campus providers. Students who use their insurance may be responsible for co-pays and deductibles when referred to off-campus mental health services.
